Sydafrika Insamlingen
New Swedish Foundation helps SA
An exciting new foundation has been established in Sweden to raise funds for sulkies, harness equipment and trotting horses to send to South Africa.
“Sydafrika-insamlingen” was initiated by prominent Swedish businessman and racehorse owner Peter Jansson, who has partnered with Travnet and Solvalla, two of Sweden’s biggest racing institutions.
Each of Sweden’s 32 harness racing tracks is acting as a collection agent, and it is estimated that the first shipment to South Africa will be as early as April 2007.
"The concept of bringing harness racing to South Africa for the first time has definitely caught the imagination of the Swedish racing public, and we have been overwhelmed by their strong levels of interest and support" says local HRSA chairperson Dean Latimer.
It is planned to have regulated live harness racing in South Africa on a regular basis by the third quarter of 2007.
