Swedish Trotters at home in SA
A welcoming ceremony was held last night at the South African Jockeys Academy to celebrate the arrival in KZN of the first batch of Swedish trotters. A group of pioneer investors also drew lots at the function for ownership of the horses.
Gold Circle director of racing Graeme Hawkins representing the Gold Circle Transformation Fund drew Operetta Swing, prominent KZN show-jumper Brett Latimer drew Linda Light, and Dale Rousseau, a new Gauteng based owner drew Carla Kemp. Longtime owner Brian Moore, renowned for his association with Foveros, purchased Golden Office, Clive Murphy drew Aces karamell, and Dean Latimer and Moga Pillay have partnered in ownership of Quickness Brew.
HRSA chairman Dean Latimer was pleased with the overall quality of the horses. “The horses were selected for us by STC in Sweden, and seem to have settled in well. Having come from winter conditions in the north of Sweden, they are really enjoying the warmth and surrounds of Summerveld” he said.
The Australian gelding El Gloriousa will race in the name of South African Jockey Academy.
The KZN Premier’s First Harness Challenge series of 10 races is expected to commence at the end of March 2009.
