Jimmy Blonde Joins Up
Big Race Jockey Jimmy Anderson, remembered by punters as a master without peer, has teamed up with trotting trainer Willie Mahlaba in Durban. Now 60 and at the same weight as when he was riding, Jimmy is proving equally at home on a sulky. The silky-smooth hands that produced Durban July winners such as Big Charles, are now driving trotters daily in preparation for harness racing’s first race in March.
“I never thought driving trotting horses would be as enjoyable as it is” enthused Jimmy after a turn in the Summerveld sugar-cane fields yesterday. “These horses are fast and so beautifully schooled. This is the business”.
