Swedish Trotting Bonds Grow
Leading Swedish trotting trainer Roger Walmann returned to Stockholm on Saturday after a well deserved 3 week holiday in South Africa.
Born in Norway and now based at Stallarholmen, not far from Stockholm, Roger has been a professional trainer in Sweden for the past 16 years. Finishing fourth on the log with 179 wins from 999 starts, his stakes earnings for 2006 were R23.5 million. He trains a string of around 140 horses at any one time.
Visiting Avontuur stud with HRSA chairman Dean Latimer last week, Roger confirmed his agreement to host and train aspirant South African trotting personnel at his yard in Sweden. "South Africa is a beautiful country, the people and climate are friendly, and the condition of the horses I have seen here is excellent. We will do our best to help you get live trotting going in South Africa" he said.
